It’s easy to understand why anyone wants to visit our country. The beautiful beaches, the exuberant wildlife and the hospitality of our people are just a couple of examples that we know tourists appreciate when in Costa Rica. Among all of those visitors, there are also celebrities coming to our shores.
Actors, great musicians or sports idols love to visit because, here, they are able to get by unnoticed with the most wanted privacy. Many of them arrive and pass through Liberia airport, as they travel directly to the coasts.
In recent years, we’ve welcomed celebrities such as Matt Damon, Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Last December, Batman was here, well, we meant Christian Bale. A couple of locals saw him horseback riding, driving an ATV and visiting several beaches in Guanacaste.
Lady Gaga was here during the same days, resting and relaxing with the calming sound of the sea, under the delicious sunlight just three hours away from Miami, and 30 minutes away from the Liberia airport.
There are also several celebrities who have found all the benefits of investing in Costa Rica.
Oscar-winning Mel Gibson purchased a 163-hectare estate in front of Playa Barrigona more than ten years ago. Since then, we’ve seen him not only in the pristine beach but also enjoying some time with locals, in coastal restaurants and bars.
A couple of tennis legends, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graff developed a luxury vacation and sports club between Playas del Coco and Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste. There’s a rumor that Indiana Jones (or well, Harrison Ford) owns a beautiful mansion, close to these estates. Top model Gisele Bündchen and her husband, professional football quarterback, Tom Brady, bought a mansion in Santa Teresa, Puntarenas with wind-energy generators and a rainwater collection system.
There are other stars who love Costa Rican waves, such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica’s members, who are avid surfers. They love to find perfect spots on the Pacific coast, not only when they come to Costa Rica to give a concert but also on their free time.
A couple of years ago, Thor’s actor, Chris Hemsworth was also spotted riding the waves and running errands in Nicoya, like a mere mortal. He arrived with his wife, Elsa Pataky, his brother Liam and, pop star Miley Cyrus.
Five-star ecological resorts, such as Costa Elena, and the natural beauties Guanacaste has to offer has turned this are into a paradisiacal destination for every kind of visitor. It’s has become such a popular destination for celebrities that is has been called the “new Malibu”.
